Be it his style with substance performance in Guide or romantic act in Prem Pujari, his movies oozed style and raised issues. Remember the glamourous Zeenat Amaan smoking away to glory in Hare Rama Hare Krishna or the beautiful Tina Munim in Des Pardes

A bit of both I guess. You have to have both (along with a host of other qualities) to be as successful as Dev Anand has been.

I must confess I am a very great fan of his (at times ludicrous) gestures.

Some of his movies find resonance even today. Guide has to be one of the best movies that I’ve ever seen.

Yes Gagandeep,Dev Anand’s gait, employing a three-foot swing to the left and right, made him look the biggest drunkard on earth. Coupled with this zigzagging, the drooping shoulders made him a creature deserving sympathy. Still he was adored.
His dialogue delivery always ran in the fast forward mode. The notation and pitch falling and rising every now and then as if someone was writhing in pain made the audiences lend an extra ear attempting to decipher what he was saying. Even then he was admired.

From whatever little i have watched of Dev Anand :P i think he was an out n out copy of Gregory Peck, though Gregory was hell lot bettter than Dev Anand. I dont know more about him cuz i havent watched a single ’full’ movie of Dev Anand, just bits and pieces i’ve seen :P honestly! but still somehow he seems to be my mom dads fav!

Sorry Sharmila, but Dev Anand is a real artist and not a copy of Gregory Peck. There may be some similarity of course. His acting is very good and impressive as well as his style. What wrong in it, if he is stylish? I have watched a lot of his movies, though I don’t remember the names of all these.

Guide, Kala Pani, Kala Bazar, Hum Dono, Love Marriage, Prem Pujari, etc are very good films. Some are of the different opinion, and they don’t like him, just because of his stylish body language and dialogue delivery.

He was a master of his art initially but like most Bollywood masters he just got stuck within his own image...

That’s why he still kept swinging even in roles that didn’t demand that... But then again the ”masses” don’t really ”accept” their heroes when they do something out of the box!!

Don’t blame Dev Anand for staying who he was... I bet even Elvis would look just as ridiculous if he were alive and performing in his own old style today!!
